Boosting Immunity and Winter Wellness

The number one thing I recommend for my patients to do in the Winter to boost their immunity, besides regular acupuncture treatments & stay healthy is making a BONE BROTH! What is a bone broth, you say? Well, its basically calcium & nutrient rich chicken or beef broth simmered with veggies & spices at a low temperature for several hours in a large stock pot or slow cooker. Sounds like something grandma used to make? Yes…Well, grandma was smart!!!


                                                                                                   Medicinal Benefits of Bone Broth:


-Mineral rich ; high in Calcium, Magnesium, & Phosphorus

-Amino Acid rich

-Supports skin & hair health with its collagen rich content-Improves connection tissue , improves digestive issues, & remineralizes teeth

-Inhibits neutrophil migration, which helps mitigate the side effects of head colds, flu, and upper respiratory infections

-Warms the digestion and strengthens the Spleen & the Kidneys in Chinese Medicine. Boosts the defensive Qi or Wei Qi against infections


Heres how you make it:


Slow Cooker Bone Broth ~



2-3 lbs of bones from organic meat or 2 large roasted chicken carcasses

2 small onions

2 carrots

2 stalks of celery

2 tbs Apple Cider Vinegar

1 Bay leaf

1 head of garlic sliced in half

*Any other soup greens or spices you enjoy in soup (like parsley & thyme)


-Roughly chop all vegetables, leaving nutritious peels & skins on

-Add chicken or beef bones to a slow cooker

-Add all veggies & spices plus apple cider vinegar

-Cover with water so totally immersed

– Cook on low for 10-12 hrs


Voila! You can freeze batches, put some in mason jars or plastic containers.  Now you have a medicinal broth to add to all your recipes or just to drink on your own!  Feed this to your family several times a week to fortify the immune system!
